So, I want to try out a NE style IPA this weekend. I am thinking of going with Gigayeast Vermont IPA. They report its a double pitch amount with ~200 b cells.
I also want to harvest some yeast. I now save trub to pitch slurries, but with the huge amount of late addition/dry hops planned for the brew I don't think this is really a good option.

I was thinking of taking the pack and making a 1L stir plate starter for 24 hours, then splitting in half, saving half and then making another 1L starter for the second half to pitch.

also, since I will be doing a second starter tomorrow, can I just boil up 2L of wort, chill, put half in the flask and the other half in a mason jar to pitch into tomorrow? Saving me the need to boil and chill 2x.

I have not yet purchased yeast, but lets assume this pack has ~150b viable cells.
A 1 L starter on stir plate (growth factor 1.4) will grow to 289b.

I split that in half to have two jars of ~ 145b cells. Save one for future use, and I do another 1L starter and end up with ~287b cells for my brew.

Does this sound about right?
