On Thursday I decided to mash 16 lbs of grain (7 lbs Golden Promise, 7 lbs 2-row, 1 lbs White Wheat, 1 lbs Caramalt) in 8 gallons of water to make another Heady clone as well as a few other beers. I mashed at 150* for 60 minutes, pulled 4 gallons (3 gallons after boil) for my Heady clone and another gallon (no boil off) for a Southern Hemisphere IPA. While those were boiling I added 1.5 gallons of water 3 different times to get three 20 minute mash rests at 160*, 165*, and 170*. I used the remaining mash to make a one gallon Bravo, Citra, El Dorado IPA and another 4 gallon IPA. Finally I sparged the grain and made a 1.5 gallon light IPA FWH with CTZ. Here are the recipes:

Heady clone:
Based on theveganbrewer's 4.0 recipe (https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f12/heady-topper-can-you-clone-390082/)
1/2 oz CTZ and 1/2 oz Apollo @ 90 min
60% of the hops @ 5, 0, and Aroma Steep since it was a 3 gallon batch
1/2 lbs corn sugar
200 billion cells of Conan.
3 gallons, 1.071 OG

Southern Hemisphere IPA:
1/8 oz Polaris @ 60
Mix of Galaxy, Stella, and Kohatu
1/4 oz @ 20
1/4 oz @ 15
1/4 oz @ 10
1/4 oz @ 5
1/4 oz @ 0
35 billion cells of Conan
1 gallon, 1.050 OG, 140 IBU

Citra/El Dorado IPA:
1/4 oz Bravo @ 60
Mix of Citra and El Dorado
1/4 oz @ 20
1/4 oz @ 15
1/4 oz @ 10
1/4 oz @ 5
1/2 oz @ 0
1/2 oz @ Aroma Steep
40 billion cells of Conan
1 gallon, 1.054 OG, 140 IBU

7-hop IPA:
1/2 oz CTZ @ 60
Mix of Centennial, Citra, CTZ, El Dorado, Galaxy, Kohatu, and Simcoe
1/2 oz @ 20
1/2 oz @ 15
1/2 oz @ 10
1/2 oz @ 5
1 oz @ 0
1.5 oz @ Aroma Steep
150 billion cells of Conan
4 gallons, 1.048 OG, 96 IBU

Light IPA:
1/8 oz CTZ @ 60
Mix of Centennial, Citra, CTZ, El Dorado, Galaxy, and Kohatu
1/8 oz @ 20
1/8 oz @ 15
1/8 oz @ 10
1/8 oz @ 5
1/4 oz @ 0
1/4 oz @ Aroma Steep
25 billion cells of Conan
1.5 gallons, 1.028 OG, 43 IBU

Efficiency is 92+%

All beers are fermenting ~65*

Threw 1/8 oz each Centennial, Citra, CTZ, El Dorado, Galaxy, and Kohatu into the Light IPA to start dry hopping.

Dry-hopped everything.

Heady clone: 60% of first dry hop based on 4.0 clone recipe. Had to substitute some Citra and El Dorado for part of the Amarillo. Centennial, CTZ, and Simcoe were leaf hops.

Southern Hemisphere IPA: Split in two 1.5 L bottles. Dry hopped one with 1/8 oz Galaxy, 1/8 oz Kohatu. Dry hopped other with 1/4 oz Citra leaf.

Citra/El Dorado IPA: Split in two 1.5 L bottles. Dry hopped one with 1/8 oz Citra, 1/8 oz El Dorado. Dry hopped other with 1/4 oz Citra leaf.

7-hop IPA: Mix of 1 oz Centennial, Citra, CTZ, El Dorado, Kohatu, and Apollo pellets, along with 1.5 oz used Centennial, Citra, and Simcoe leaf hops

Light IPA: Second dry hop with 1/8 oz each Centennial, Citra, CTZ, Simcoe leaf

Added 2nd dry hop for Heady clone: 60% of 2nd dry hop based on 4.0 clone recipe, substituting Citra and El Dorado for Amarillo. Centennial, CTZ, and Simcoe were leaf hops.

Bottled the other 4 batches. Interestingly enough every single batch had a FG of 1.008.

Added the final dry hop for Heady clone: 60% of 3rd dry hop based on 4.0 clone recipe, substituting Citra for Amarillo. All hops were leaf hops except Apollo.

Bottled the Heady clone, another 1.008 FG beer. All the other 4 beers were good, but none of them were quite as good as my previous Conan beer - my 1.063 OG/1.007 FG, 90 IBU CTZ vs Apollo IPA. It's possible that one was better because even when I bottled it I made sure to keep the temperature under 70* or it could be that Conan is better with higher gravity beers, but outside of it having no Belgian tastes (out of the 4, only the light IPA didn't have a slight Belgian taste, possible because it was double dry-hopped) that beer seemed much more hop forward than my other 4 IPAs, and it was only single dry-hopped.

It's also possible I liked my CTZ vs Apollo IPA better because it only used Golden Promise and 2-row. Another experiment I'll have to run to perfect my 7th Hoppin' IPA.

Interesting. Did you get any astringency on your last batch from thin runnings?

The light IPA is actually the least astringent of the batches. It worked out pretty good squeezing that last bit of efficiency out of the grain.
