First off, if you haven't joined the Ramstein Fermenters then shame on you Secondly, one of our members has attained a used red wine barrel that is itching to be filled with beer. 225 liters (~59 gallons) is a lot of beer to brew. One of his favorite styles and a beer that really would fit a red wine barrel is a Flanders Red so it seems we have settled on the beer to brew.
It will likely work like this...Everyone brews a batch of beer, depending on interest likely 5 gallons, maybe more if less interest and if you have capacity, and on a set day we all meet in Wörrstadt, about halfway between Wiesbaden and Ramstein, to fill the barrel and brew more if we want to add I fermented wort or something else. We have at least 6 participating already so space will be pretty limited and will be on a first come basis. If you are going to commit to brew please be sure you can brew and find a way to get the wort to us on barrel fill day.
The beer will likely be in the barrel a long time, maybe even up to a year if it takes that long to become as awesome as it can be. Spots are filling fast and we are in the process of forum.lating a recipe so if you can commit now we could use input on the recipe building process too.
On barrel fill day ill probably smoke a pork shoulder or brisket or something and well have a beer or 4 I'm sure.
