So I decided to piece together a recipe without a kit for the first time and am looking for some feedback on an American Brown. After looking around on here this is what I came up with:

5# Light DME
12 oz Crystal 80
12 oz Crystal 40
8 oz Special B
4 oz Chocolate
4 oz Flaked Oats

.75 oz Columbus @60
2 oz Willamette @0
Wyeast 1335

Beer Calculus came out with OG 1.051, 24 SRM, and 29 IBU.

There really is no rhyme or reason to any of it so any suggestions are welcome. Let me know what you think.

Good start, but a couple things I'd suggest. Cut the crystal (including the Special B) in half, I think you'll have too much sweetness as is. I'd drop the oats completely, they contain starch that needs enzymes in base malt to convert. You can add a bit more Light DME to replace the fermentables if you want.

Otherwise it looks good to me, let us know how it turns out.
