Found these foldback 4500watt 240v elements for $5 a pop at the re-store. Any reason these won't work for a HLT? Thanks.

Looks good to me. It isn't SS so you will want to remove it after every boil and let it dry completely.
A little keg lube on the base will help with the base rust.

The base is steel but the element itself looks like incoloy i.e. stainless steel. It does look like an ultra low watt element.

I use 2 that look just like that but have never removed them to let them dry. Wipe them off when done using them or coat the base with food safe silicone. Never worried about the small amount of rust that get's built up. Keg lube does help manage that too.

So got a little info on the element. It's one made for polymer tanks. It's a 1 3/8 diameter threads though. Found it on amazon for 50 bucks. Says it's Amalloy has anyone heard of this metal?

or it is probably just a standard 1" NPT thread. Outside diameter of a 1" NPT is 1.315" (i.e. pretty close to 1 3/8" especially if you are measuring with a ruler/tape measure

I had a 1" nut laying around and it wouldn't thread on. No go on the element, I found a nut that woulda worked but then if I ever had to replace it I would have to find one. Swing and a miss !
