Cooler conversion kit

I just ordered a conversion kit from a source I won't reveal. The individual parts do not screw together completely. It won't thread all the way. I gave them a call, and they said it was normal. Is it?
The pic is not the complete set up. Just want to show how the parts don't thread completely.

The picture seems to show tapered pipe threads. They should only screw together until the tapered threads are tight. You should be using Teflon pipe thread tape on them to improve the seal when you do the final assembly.
