I have my fermentation loss for my equipment set on Beersmith. I know when I brew a beer with a large hop addition or something like a pumpkin ale the fermenter loss is considerably higher. What is a good way to compensate for this and still come out with the 5 gallon target volume? Do I change the fermentation loss in my equipment setting and will this change the amount of water and corresponding grain addition?

You can compensate by specifying a larger batch size OR you can change the fermentation loss setting to reflect actual predicted loss. Personally I find the latter to be more intuitive, since it reflects what's actually happening.

I make a larger batch . I brew mostly 5 gallon batches but my IPA I brew 5.5 just because I know I'm gonna have some loss.
