I just bought a new keg and it came with over 40PSI of gas in it
I don't know what gas it is, I just assumed it's CO2 and I'm about to use it to pressurize my other keg

What could go wrong?

Well it could be air from a compressor.
CO2 or nitrogen would put a flame out air won't.
If CO2 or nitrogen okay to purge kegs with of starsan but you won't get a lot of luck force carbonating with that volume of gas at that pressure.
If you used the gas in there and then opened keg to find something growing in there you could have jeopardised whatever you transfer to.
But agreed venting it does seem a waste.

40psi of compressed "whatever gas" is not much of anything. Even if it was CO2, you are not saving a whole lot by using it instead or your regular tank of liquid CO2.

not worth even trying to use it.
