I've never used it. I bought a pound to add to a Rye Pale Ale and I noticed it's not on beer smith and I can't find a lot of info on it. Does anyone know how it compares to caramel malts? The brew store employee thought it was similar to 40L.

In beersmith, use the weyermann add-on pack to get cararye (caramel rye) added to your list of grains.

I'd recommend limiting itt to 3-5% or so, for a first time using it. Its pretty dark and rich...caramel and bready.

I was just looking at it, tried some, it does seem dark & rich. I was going to add the whole pound to a 12lb recipe, maybe I'll cut it back a touch. Half a pound would give me 4%.
