I am curious to know when is the best time to use flavoring extract oils? I will be using LorAnn Gourmet Liquid Flavoring PECAN in an English Brown ale to give it a more nutty flavor.

My question is would it be better to add the flavoring extract:
- before cold crashing?
- during cold crashing?
- strait into keg when kegging?

Since they're oil and alcohol based, heat and evaporation during fermentation can definitely affect the taste. I've always added liquid extracts at bottling (or in your case kegging) time as you won't lose much if any flavor. Plus you have a better idea of how much is needed after fermentation and conditioning is finished. If you add the extract too early, the taste may not seem as balanced later on.

I usually add them right to the keg...or the bucket with the priming sugar if i'm bottling the batch

So the later the flavor extract is added, the more prevalent the flavors will be. Thanks everyone.
