Beer Engine Repair

Anybody by chance had any experience in beer engine repair? I have a Hi-Gene engine that's acting up. I've taken the cylinder out, but cant seem to get it apart. Don't want to get too aggressive and break it. The end caps either thread on (which seems unlikely compared with other's Ive seen), or are just press fit. Hopefully the attached picture shows there are two small pencil sized holes 180 degrees apart, which looks as if a special tool like a spanner wrench could be used in disassembly, but that's a guess. If anyone could steer me in the right direction, it would be most appreciated. Excessive force is likely to get me $400 worth of junk parts.
