Okay...hoping I made a good purchase. Just picked up a coding kit from Radioshak for 25 bucks. Includes Arduino power supply and a few modules.

I have a little C+ programming and very little HTML and PHP programming. Can I use this as a PID without the Raspberry Pi? Also, what other nifty homebrew projects can I tackle?

There are PID algorithms written in C/C++ out there. There is probably already a version written specifically for Arduino as well.

Yes there is PID code in the arduino playground. Someone on this forum also wrote an auto tune algorithm that I've used with decent success. I use arduinos for PID control for my meat smoker and my small double boiler that I use for making cheese and 1 gallon batches of beer.
