I recently received a pound of Apollo pellets from Yakima valley hops.
Most I have read talks about using them as bittering due to their high Alpha.
But let me tell you, these things smell really good, better than the pound f Citra I got. The one thing that really stuck out was when I took one pellet and rubbed it between my fingers, it was so incredibly resinous....like my fingers stuck together. Yakima has them rated at 1.5-2.5ml per 100g grams of oil. I'm thinking with this high oil content, and wonderful aroma they would make a great late addition hop.
Anybody have any experience with Appolo as a SMASH or heavy late addition?
My hop heavy IPA I brewed with Apollo, Citra, Amarillo and Columbus(2.5 oz each from 5 mins to flameout) is 1 week into fermentation.
My house APA consists of Cascade and Columbus, I am thinking of trying same recipe but swapping the cascade for the Apollo.
