I recently found a 14 gal stainless tank that was used as a sand filter for a above ground pool. I was thinking about boiling two extract kits together in it and was also considering cooling with a chiller and pitching and fermenting in the same tank, that way I could just bottle out a bottom valve. Has anyone ever tried this with success? Also, what is the minimum tank thickness that can hold up to the 55K burner?

Appreciate all the help I've got here now and earlier.

I haven't done it myself, but I have heard of kettles being used as fermentors. That was due to space issues and the lack of equipment in foreign countries.

I once fermented a DIPA in its boil kettle as my intended fermenter broke during the boil. As it turns out, it was great. No issues what so ever.

Beer is amazingly resilient.
