Setting up a fermentation chamber and wondering if you drill a hole through the side of the chest freezer for the probe or place the probe under the seal as you close the chest door. Using a Magic Chef 7cuFT chest freezer connected to a A419 Johnson Control unit.

If you try to drill through the side of the typical/modern chest freezer, you'll have two opportunities to let all of the refrigerant out: by hitting the hot-side (condenser) coil that's up against the exterior skin, or hitting the cold-side (evaporator) coil that's up against the interior skin. And good luck with that.

I ran all my lines (CO2, temperature probe, DC power to the fans) through the back edge of the lid. Totally safe...
