So we are well versed in kegging our lager by purging keg first with co2 then filling with beer… if we do a couple of kegs they can last a good few months - in fact that’s as long as we’ve tested as it never hangs around past then…

We are going to have a go with a dark beer and 70/30 nitro/co2.

My question is do you purge the keg with nitro or still 100% co2?

Next question what’s the shelf life in comparison to regular co2 only?

Cheers

I keep a nitro imperial chocolate stout on tap alongside ipas, neipa, pales and wheat beers all on straight CO2, and there's no difference in shelf life one could attribute to the gas used.

As for purging to eliminate oxygen in a keg, as long as you don't use straight nitrogen I don't think it'll matter much (straight nitrogen filling a keg head space will slow down carbonation as it won't be absorbed but it'll still take up space)...

Cheers!

I'd purge with CO2 just due to cost per volume.

Shelf life, differences in the beer itself nowithstanding, I'd think would be as good with N/CO2 as CO2 alone.

Free ferment CO2 to purge kegs or expensive, unknown data using beer gas.
I'm ready to learn from your experiment and standing by.
