Searched but no dice. Anyone have any luck with putting a 5L starter on a 2L stirplate? I make some larger starters for lagers and in the past I've borrowed another 2L and stirplate. I'd like to get a 5L flask but do I need to buy a new stirplate as well? I know the answer is that I should but would the smaller one do for now?

No. Stirplates are not "sized" It will stir a 5L starter with ease if it stirs a 2L with ease.

Obviously a 1000L starter might crush it/fall off it/not be stirred by it, so there is a point where something bigger might be needed.

Going from 2 to 5L though is not an issue.
