Hi all. We were going to brew a mid sized Belgian 5-7% and already have our 6gal carboys in use. We want to brew again and only have the 5gal ones to use. Would they have enough head space to use as a primary, or would we loose a lot of beer out the blowoff tubes? ....maybe I should just go out and get 2 more 6 gal jugs.

Ale pails are much less expensive, safer to use, have a nice handle for carrying, and will last a long time if you take care of them. You bigger beer that you plan will likely spill a lot of beer into the blowoff if you use a 5 gallon carboy.
