After 4 AGs, I was able to hit a good efficiency this weekend.

I was used to doing large, 15G batches when extract brewing so I tried 10 and 12 gallon batches when going AG. I was never able to hit my volume targets....10 G batches were 8 G...12's came out to 10.5 Gs, etc. I never even bothered to calculate the efficiency until. I think the breakthrough was due to keeping good notes, having a great crush (fom my DIY grain mill) and getting to know my equipment (boil-off %, break material loss, etc).

This makes up for the 4L lost from a dropped bottling bucket on Fri. :(

So, now I have 12 G in ther fermentor !

(NB: 12G boiling in keggle, 3G in a separate pot).

Cheers.

oi, I did almost the same thing this past weekend....knocked about a liter of precious stone IPA clone to the floor while I was moving my mash.

12-15 gallons...that's a load of brew!

Ya, 5G never seems like enough....it goes to quickly. When doing AG, there really isn't much a difference in time when doubling the batch. And the extra costs in ingredients are negligable.

Cheers,
