Harvested wyeast 1056 from a conical two weeks ago. Captured middle cut of yeast from bottom dump to a santized ball jar. Took the yeast at within 1 point of FG. I'm pretty careful about sanitizing. Stored in fridge at 40F.

Everything looked fine 4 days ago but today looked at the jar lid it is bulged, seal is broken and a mini krausen has formed.

Not taking a chance on a PTE clone so I open lid and found settled yeast cake full of swiss cheese like holes

Contamination? other?

No problem. Don't seal jar of fresh harvested yeast. If you have to, crack the seal every couple of days.

It is just the yeast still working. No contamination issues.

I store my harvested yeast in Mason jars with the lids just cracked.

Beer can have a lot of CO2 dissolved in it. Even in the refrigerator some of this will come out of solution and raise the pressure in the vessel which is mostly why you lid bulged. Leave the lid a little loose so the escaping CO2 has a place to escape to.
