Has anyone considered using a Myers-hub conduit fitting as a weld-less kettle fitting?

I was considering how this might work for installing an water heater element in a kettle, and thought someone may have experimented with these before.

They use a captive O-ring gasket, are available is SS, and since they are for electrical conduit, they should be a 1" non-tapered thread.

A 1" meyers hub in stainless runs about $100 new. I have seen them used for $40-50, but keep in mind, the female thread end of a Meyers is actually NPT and not the best fit for heating elements. The O-ring and locknut method of installing elements directly through the wall is a fine solution already.
