Sweet Stout Left Hand Milk Stout Clone

Just made this yesterday in the hopes for a St Patrick's Day tapping! Mine came out at about 1.060. Was just reading through (most of) the posts and reading about the history of Milk Stouts, etc. and found this quote from the Brewmaster at Left Hand Brewery. “(Milk stouts) are typically...

    Wyeast 1450 - Denny's Fave Experiences?

I just used the 1450 yesterday for the first time with a starter. I didn't have a lot of activity with the starter, though I may have missed it! I added the yeast to the wort yesterday evening and there isn't a whole lot going on in there. There are some small groups of foam on the top but...

    Graff (Malty, slightly hopped cider)

I used some hops harvested from a friend as well! Mine were Nugget hops. First time using them in something. They smell great! Have to wait and see on the bitterness in the completely finished product with carbonation and a little aging on it. It's definitely not as dry as Ed Wort's Apfelwein!

    Graff (Malty, slightly hopped cider)

Just kegged this last night. Tasted great going into the fermenter! Tasted it coming out of the fermenter and it was a little tart. ABV was 8.4%... Haven't read through the 243 pages of posts, but... anyone feel the need to back sweeten this?

British Brown Ale Aberdeen Brown Ale (NewCastle Clone) AG

The first time I made this it was incredible! However... the second time it was just so so... The second go round I tried, unsuccessfully, to boost the ABV by adding some brown candi sugar... The mouthfeel was very thin and lacking the malty flavor I had the first time I made it. I didn't add...

    Wood-Aged Beer Oktobourbon

How long did you lager this and and what temp in the secondary/keg after the rest on the oak?

Control Products Dual Relay $60 Shipped on Amazon

I just got around to wiring the TC-9102 this past weekend for my kegerator/lagering refrigerator. Everything seems to be working right but was curious how you guys have your temperature probe mounted/placed? I just have the PTC sensor that came with the unit. I know this is not supposed to be...

    Wiring Thermostat Control

I purchased the TC-9102D-HV some months ago... before winter here in Colorado Springs where my garage has been as cold as my kegerator, and I have yet wired it and got it running. The one question I have is to those that have this in use, do you have the incoming power hard wired to the...

Any new news on Home Depot Homer buckets?

I just bought a white food grade HDPE bucket at Lowe's this past weekend for $3.97 + $1.97 for the lid! Pretty good for a secondary or bottling bucket!

Preventing Diacetyl -or- "Hold The Butter Please"

So... I got dinged at a competition (my first) for off flavors and the possibility of poor sanitation, bacterial ring forming? on the inside of my bottle, etc. I had a few more bottles of this beer that I had bottled from the keg at the same time and noticed no "bacterial ring" forming. Didn't...

    Bottle Conditioning Barleywine

So I have attempted a Dogfish Head Olde School Barelywine clone... My attempt was taken loosely from what I have read on their site and different descriptions of the beer. They wouldn't give me nothing when I emailed them! I didn't think they would... Anyway... This beer had been brewed...

    My First Homebrew Competition

Entering a competition this weekend... Is it necessary to come up with some clever name for my beer? Or is entering it in a specific category and calling it for example... Imperial Pilsner, enough? Didn't know if giving it a name helps or hinders! Thanks!

    Ever put Figs in Beer?

I am going to be brewing a barleywine this weekend and had been thinking of adding dates/figs to this brew.... Was trying to go for that Olde School Barleywine taste (which is awesome if you haven't had one!) Does the fruit need to be boiled prior to adding to the secondary? Could I just add it...

    Experimental Beer Imperial Pilsner

So I rested this bad boy and put it in the keg to lager. I tested my ABV and I am at 10.37% Woo Hoo! This will definitely pack a wallop! Not sure I can wait 3-6 months for this!

    Experimental Beer Imperial Pilsner

A couple of questions... I am ready to do the rest at 65 deg... Do I do that in the primary? After the three day rest, can I transfer to a corny keg and lager? Do I need an airlock? Thanks... First time lagering a beer in my kegerator! Thanks!

    Experimental Beer Imperial Pilsner

Making this recipe today! Mashing as we speak... I am using the Safelager w34/70 yeast and I am adding 1oz of Czeck Saaz hops at the end of the boil. Just a couple little tweaks otherwise all the same! Only problem is it's not going to be done until November/December? :( I have a strong...

    Wee Heavy Strong Scotch Ale

Just transferred this to it's new home in the secondary for the next two months! OG was 1.072 and ended up at 1.012! Tasted very good! Going to be a long two months... :( Need to make something else soon... my kolsch is running low in the keg!

Mash Tun with stainless steel braided weave hose

I thought I might add this tip... I got my 10 gallon igloo cooler at Wal-mart.com http://alturl.com/atxer for $39.98. The exact same cooler on the Igloo company website is $77.99! Another question for everyone... Due to the drain hole being about 1 inch above the bottom, do you have a lot...

Mash Tun with stainless steel braided weave hose

Some great responses, thank you! Wanted to add a picture of my mash tun and add some more information I should have included in my previous post. I do have a wound copper wire inside of my braid. If you notice, I have separated the braid into two halves with a coupling in the middle to add a...
