    My Wooden Jockey Box 2.0

4 years ago I built a wooden jockey box: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/showthread.php?t=428860 A friend from my homebrew club likes to point out that it's the #1 result when doing a Google image search for "wooden jockey box". Quite an achievement! I'm hoping to bump it to #2 with my new one...

anyone know of a table of malt characteristics?

Hi, I've been reading through Mallette's Malt book and I was intrigued by the Weyermann Malt Aroma Wheel and the Murray Malt Flavour Characteristics described on page 127. I would like to create a spreadsheet that would supplement recipe calculators and show a (approximate, theoretical)...

Keezer to end all Keezers (in my house) build

Edit: I thought I would post a picture of the complete unit up front for anyone jumping in on page 1... I've successfully killed 2 keezers so far. Both times I mounted the gas manifold to the inside wall and probably punctured a coolant line because both have only lasted 18-24 months...

    carrots?

Anyone ever use carrots in the boil or mash? I'm thinking of doing a carrot cake beer. Like most pumpkin beers, the carrot probably wouldn't contribute as much flavor as the spices would, but it's worth a try.

    simple inline thermometer

I just taped a temperature strip to a copper pipe and attached my silicone hose to both ends. I'll use this on the wort out side of my new plate chiller to monitor the temperature of the wort going into the fermenter. Easy-peasy.

Plumbed my brewstand with inline water filter

I was getting sick of carrying full pots from my laundry room to my garage, or acting as a one-man bucket brigade to fill my HLT with brewing liquor. I decided to plumb my brewstand with a copper water manifold so I could plug in a garden hose and get on-demand brewing liquor plus cold water...

    over carbed with oak?

I did an oaked Scottish 80/- (or closer to 90/-) over the winter and I find its been slowly priming itself in the bottle over time, so that it is now much more carbonated than I intended. I don't have my notes handy, but off the top of my head I conditioned in the secondary for 3-4 months and...

    My wooden jockey box

I offered to serve beer at my cousin's wedding last weekend and I needed something nice to serve it in. I could have gone with a regular colman cooler style jockey box, but for a wedding I wanted to serve it in style. So, I build a wooden Jockey box: The box is made from pine...

    corny post coupler

I just built a wooden jockey box (pictures coming) and used it to serve 30 gallons of homebrewers at my cousin's wedding. I'm getting ready to pack it up for storage since I don't anticipate Ill use it again for some time. I have lye in the lines right now to disinfect and clean them, but I'm...

    magnetized water?

Last weekend my father-in-law was preaching to me about magnetized water and its health benefits after he had read an article about it somewhere. I usually don't pay attention to that sort of metaphysics, but it got me thinking so I browsed a bit on the internet. I'm paraphrasing a bit, but...

    gas connection help

I'm sure there's lots of posts like this but I'm very frustrated and a quick search hasn't provided much help... I was hoping to brew on my new single tier brew stand this weekend, but the only setback is with my propane connection. Here's the stand: and the burners (10 inch Bayou Classic...

    Parti-Gyle questions

this weekend or the next I'll be brewing a Wee Heavy / Strong Scotch ale (using no-sparge) and following it with a parti-gyle (which makes for a long brew day). I only have one burner, so I'll have to queue up the 2 boils. I'm trying to plan out the logistics for this... During the Wee...

    Giant coffee pot for HLT?

I was inspired by this video on how coffee makers work: what appeals to me is the simple way that water is forced into the filter chamber above with no moving parts and the efficient use of the heater's energy to keep the pot warm. Im wondering if the same concept could be used to heat...

    Chia seed?

So apparently chia seed is one of those "super foods" thats supposed to be extremely healthy for you. Does anyone know if there would be any nutritional benefits to adding chia to homebrew? would it go in the mash or in the boil or in the secondary? Its more or less tasteless as far as I can...

    Critique please: Pepper-Lime blonde ale

Hi, This is my first post. I'm working on my first all-grain recipe (done several AG brews already with recipes borrowed from this forum). I'd like a little constructive criticism please... Pepper-Lime Blonde Ale Grain: 2-row pale malt - 6lb wheat malt - 2lb crystal 60 - 1lb rye...

new member from Abbotsford, British Columbia

Hi, just joined the forum. A short home-brew autobiography (brew-bio?)... I got into homebrewing about 18 months ago and I've brewed about 12 extract batches so far. While bottling my 2nd batch, I thought to myself 'screw this bottling nonsense' and started constructing a kegerator (3-tap...
