    Too little action

Thanks for all that. Temperature restricted so low 60s is all I can do for now but have had good luck with cal lager yeast at those temps. I'm watching it closely and will take a hydrometer reading when I see the action stop and its cleared up a bit.

    Primary forgotten

Bottle it! It wont be an IPA anymore but might be something great.

    Too little action

I'm fermenting a munich dunkel on the yeast from my last Schwarzbier and getting no bubbles from those blow off hose. One of those orange caps running into a gallon jug of San. I see action but no gas bubbles. Using wyeast cal lager yeast. Can you pitch another packet? Should I pitch the same...

    When to add amylase enzyme?

I did know this. I have swing tops but plan to bottle several different size bottles. Around 10% abv expected so I can age it and not make such a commitment when I open it.

    When to add amylase enzyme?

What I've read is a little confusing. When and how would you add it? If style makes a difference, extract imperial stout.

    First starter looks odd

Well brew day happened. Pitched starter and things are on track. Had lots more yeast than I started with. Have a 2000ml flask. Stir plate around $50. Not highest priority when starting out gathering equipment. Thanks for the tips

Packets are 100billion cells and recipe requires 322billion. Not sure how fast they reproduce.

    First starter looks odd

Well I pitched 2 wlp001 into 1200ml. Think it normally would be 2000ml for 2 packets. Brewing imperial stout tomorrow and want to make sure there's plenty of yeast but not too much volume to change gravity. Thank you as always for your help

    First starter looks odd

I heated it up slowly and made sure it was mixed thoroughly before taking it up to boil. It all settled to the bottom now. Can I still pitch the yeast?
  12. Doobiebrewer

    First starter looks odd

I just boiled my starter for 2 min (4cups water, 1cup dme). Right at 2min it looked like hot break happening. And now have grey bits floating around in it. Is this normal?

    Brewing imperial stout

I'm brewing this recipe soon. Have all ingredients. Not confident in repitching yeast yet. Worried about attenuation and thinking about pitching 2 packets of wlpoo1. What would be the negative effects of this? Any tips would be appreciated.

    Steeping temp

Does the temperature of the steep in extract brewing effect final abv? I usually steep grains at 152° but want to make a big imperial stout and not finding temps and times.
