Busy dads brew day - all the shortcuts I could think of

So I do tasks over 2 days and on brew day im in and out to a point where I'm not gone from my family for too long. Let's assume brew day is on Saturday. Also I went to the anvil foundary setup when my daughter was born. Best decision in cutting down brew days. FRIDAY Weigh and mill grains...

How long do YOU boil ?

30-45 minutes. When my 2 year old was born I started working on ways to reduce brew day times. I also do no chill.

    Recommend a beer fridge!

I went the route of a old upright freezer and use a Johnson controls controller to keep the temps where they need to be. I can shoehorn 3 kegs and a 5gallon co2 tank. I also have two additional shelves for bottled beer, sodas, etc

    Hornindal slow fermentation??

Yeah same thing happened to me recently. Saw airlock activity and decided to check gravity. Was at roughly 1.005. This stuff is crazy. Does not taste as dry as it measures though.

    Grainfather upgrade

Yeah I'm in Atlanta so it doesn't get so cold to where it's a true issue. However just dumb luck I did notice oday that morebeer had a 9 gallon pot model with 220V so it can use bigger elements. So that could be a consideration. Can't go wrong with either in my opinion. The robobrew will save...

    Grainfather upgrade

Yeah same here. I use a robobrew w/o pump and its pretty solid. Since I dont have a pump, I circulate around 1.5 gallons at 10 and 30 minutes into the mash the old fashion way. Lol. In the winter months you will need to wrap it in reflectex or some form of insulation to help get to boil...

Doing my first all grain this weekend

Shooting a 1.052 on 12# and for your first all grain brew is not bad by any means. That should be a dang good beer. I actually shoot for that OG in a lot of my beers. That is roughly the OG I saw back when I was mashing with a cooler.

Briess 50 lb 2 Row Brewers Malt $64.11 includes shipping

I have used Viking. I experienced lower efficiency however it was pretty minimal IMHO for the price. For one of my APA's I consistantly get 1.050 with 10# of grain. When I sub the 2row with Viking I'm pretty consistent at 1.045. Still pretty dang good beer and that's what matters to me.

Voss kveik in garage, no temp control

I've been using hothead all summer fermenting around 90 here in Atlanta. I swear I'm not going back to my other yeast strains until October or November. Lol

    Belgian with Kveik yeast

Kveik will make a good beer just not to style. I'm one who tends to go against the grain so I saw to brew on. I've been using hothead all summer and its been awesome. I've gone as high as 90 degrees with nice flavor and no headaches. Lol

Hornindal Kveik in american white ale?

Let's us know the results. I've been using that yeast all summer due to the fact it I'm in Atlanta with no temp control. I actually have a wheat in the keg and it came out dang good. 50% 2row and wheat with a little honey malt. Fermented at what looked like a little shy of 100 degrees. Very...

    Robobrew V3 35L - Hitting tempuratures

Check out the build your own kettle with high gravity brew. My controller came from Ebay and is very good. I'll post if I find the part number. https://www.highgravitybrew.com/store/pc/Build-Your-Own-Brew-Kettle-269p2657.htm

    Robobrew V3 35L - Hitting tempuratures

As far as the jacket I simply purchased some reflectix from home depot and wrapped it a few times. If you go 220V I would just get a simple custom build. That's what I have for my 10 gallon batches. I use the 120v robobrew for 5 gallon brews.

    Robobrew V3 35L - Hitting tempuratures

That seems interesting. I have a robobrew v3 without the pump and I'm generally 5 degrees off consistently. As for taking so long to hit your mash temps are you keeping the lid on when heating to mash temps? Are you insulating your robobrew? That has helped me a lot in the winter months.

    plastic pint glasses

I use stainless steel for this purpose and they are awesome. Also for certain brews like my blonde where I prefer it colder longer, the stainless steel does the trick.

    Average age of home brewers......

Sure as hell works for me. I throw a party or take a few kegs to some tailgates and then I find myself playing catchup. Lol

    In the bottle

During football season ( I tailgate a lot) I have to keep about 2 beers in the fermenters to keep up with demand. In the off season I typically keep 2 in the kegs and one in the fermenter. At home it's just me and the occasional neighbor who comes with a growler.
