    Lagering Idea

An "alarm thermometer" would definitely be on my list. The concrete floor will be colder than ambient air temperature, and don't forget to watch for drafts. You may need a small fan for air circulation.

Can I prepare iodophor liquid myself from chemicals bought at a local store?

Charlie Talley explains it easier (start about 09:30 in for counts): March 29, 2007 - Sanitizing with Bleach and Star San Charlie Talley from Five Star Chemicals tells us best practices in using household bleach and Star San in sanitizing equipment...

Can I prepare iodophor liquid myself from chemicals bought at a local store?

That's the reason for mixing the bleach first. The vinegar just lowers the ph.

Can I prepare iodophor liquid myself from chemicals bought at a local store?

Iodophor is used widely by restaurant, food production, and dairy industry. The generic description is "concentrated broad spectrum iodophor disinfectant and no-rinse sanitizer" and it seems that each company has their own name for it. You'll probably have to buy a gallon. If all else fails...

getting ready for first brew.. aluminum?

AND, as long as you're boiling water to cure the aluminum pot, why cook something? Potatoes for supper, to start?

We suspect chlorophenols in our beers, but we have no clue what causes them to appear

Iodophor is used widely by restaurant, food production, and dairy industry. The generic description is "concentrated broad spectrum iodophor disinfectant and no-rinse sanitizer" and it seems that each company has their own name for it. It's still a popular dairy germicide and should be...

    10 gallon Corny Keg

Many larger Cornelius Kegs have been used for toxic chemicals. I have eight, 10 gallon kegs, that are used for pesticides. The original ball-lock connectors needed to be swapped out due to plugging from dry granules that wouldn’t completely dissolve. I hope you’re sure of the...

    Beer

I am guessing the OP is over filling his bottles since this is an annual event. For all practical purposes, liquids cannot be compressed, only gasses can. As the temperature rises carbon dioxide (gas) starts coming out of solution while the beer (liquid) is also expanding. Not enough headspace...

    star san 2 gallons

1 US fluid ounce = 2 US tablespoons = 6 US teaspoons per 5 gallons. So 1.2 teaspoons (I go 1¼) of StarSan per gallon of water.

De-oxidizing during fermentation using corny kegs for secondary

Just because you can't see it, doesn't mean the little yeasties aren't doing their jobs. This may be normal for the yeast you're using. Let your hydrometer be your guide.

    How did you find us?

Bing! After I got a Mr Beer for Xmas and wanted to know more than the simple instructions that came with the kit.

    Strange fermentation

I have been making wine for years and just started brewing beer. All of my other brews have needed a blow off tube, but this one (my first semi-mash) is putting out no C02. The OG was 1.042 and I racked it to a glass secondary last night after 6 days in a (new) bucket. It had a gravity of 1.012...
