    Apples

I'd go Gala- the sweetest of the bunch, though I don't think I've ever had Pink Lady. Granny Smith are generally very bitter, so if that's what you use, I'd just make sure there's plenty of balance. Happy Brewing!

    Bar build - Thanks All

Wow! If MDDave means you're in Maryland, I may have found my new favorite bar! ;) But seriously, it looks great! Can't wait to see the finished product.

    Need urgent help!

Put your measuring utensil on a bathroom scale, note how much it weighs and then add sugar until you reach one pound more. Go from there.

I'll definitely give it a shot! I'm out of DME, so when I next pick some up, I'll try it out and update.

    Heavy Seas' Riptide yeast

So I just tried Heavy Seas' Riptide White IPA this weekend, and it was great. I have one left from the 6-pack and was wondering if I could save a bit to make a starter from it. However, I'm not sure if the yeast is harvest-able based on my interaction with the Heavy Seas Twitter account. So...

What does the term SMaSH mean?

Thanks a bunch! That's exactly what I needed and a great thing to know about for a new brewer. Much obliged! :mug:

What does the term SMaSH mean?

So this might be a stupid question (Would I be asking it here if it weren't?!?) but can you use a grain that generally isn't a base grain. Like, say, Crystal 150 or something? I mean, I know I could but is it even worth it? It just happens to be on sale from AHS and I'm a college kid trying to...

    Brewing outdoors

All of this sounds so appealing, I think I'll have to try a brew day out on the deck once finals are over in May! :mug:

2013's How many gal of homebrew in 2013

14,018.5 + 5.5 gallons of Irish Red Ale = 14,024 gallons :mug: Happy St. Paddy's Day all around! Maybe if we're lucky, the more festive brewers will get us up to at least 14,100 by the end of today? ;)

Peg Leg Imperial Stout from Heavy Seas in Baltimore, MD to start the day! Then I'll make my way to Annapolis this evening to start the true festivities!

Howdy from the Old Line State!

Hello everyone! Long time reader, first time writer. Started reading about homebrew about a year or so ago and bought myself a Mr. Beer kit, and I had my 21st birthday a couple weeks ago, so I thought it was about time to buy myself a big boy kit. ;) Anyways, I got myself one from Northern...
