    Questions about a Holiday beer

I bottled the modified deception stout on Sunday the 15th of December. I ended up with 4.5ish gallons of finished product. To that I added 2.5 teaspoons of peppermint extract oil adding a little at a time. I am hoping it doesn't get stronger as it conditions. The flavor is not exactly what I...

Why is beer boiling out of bottle when opened

No I made it the right way. When using the kit I would always seperate the priming sugar from the rest of the ingrediants

Why is beer boiling out of bottle when opened

I rack it over to make for a clearer finished product. That and I can get another batch started

Why is beer boiling out of bottle when opened

One good thing is there is no carpet in the house for beer to soak into. Also I keep the bottles in the box they came in so if anything were to happen any possible shards would be better contained in the box. I use a secondary fermenter to for clarity of the beer. I have roughly 10 of these left...

Why is beer boiling out of bottle when opened

I brewed this on May 5 2013. Racked to secondary May 11. Bottled May 27. Placed in closet for 2-3 weeks before I put a couple in the fridge. Seemed ok at the time. It was after a couple months that I opened another bottle and that's when I got the gusher. Didn't make sure of stabiity first. I...

Why is beer boiling out of bottle when opened

I'm not sure on the size of the package. Could have been 4 oz of priming sugar. This is for a 5 gallon batch. I had the bottles in the fridge for a few days up to a week before opening. So they were chilled. I will put another one in the fridge for a few days and see what happens

Why is beer boiling out of bottle when opened

the first batch I made was a 1.056 OG and a FG of 1.014. The second batch was an OG of 1.060 and a FG of 1.022. I used the package of priming sugar that came with the Brewers Best box kit in both. I didn't write the amount down but am pretty sure it was 8oz. The bottles were in the fridge for a...

Why is beer boiling out of bottle when opened

A few months ago I brewed an Oatmeal Stout. After bottle conditioning and then sitting for a while in the pantry I opened one. It was really foamy and seemed to keep boiling out of the bottle. I had given several out to friends and they said the same thing. Did I bottle it a little too soon? Is...

    Questions about a Holiday beer

I made the Deception Stout with a few modifications. Did an All-Grain style and sparged it to the best I could. Looked like a thick chocolate milk when I poured it into the primary fermenter. Pitched the yeast and put in the pantry. Monitering the temp and with any luck it will turn out great.

    Sweet Stout Deception Cream Stout

Am really wanting to use this as a base for something else. What is a good replacement for the Wyeast? My local homebrew shop does not carry the Wyeast anymore as it didn't sell very good. Would using a full pound of Lactose help with the creaminess? I am fairly new to the homebrew family so I...

    Questions about a Holiday beer

Since the Holiday season is almost upon us I was wanting to make a special beer for friends and family. I thought of a Chocolate Peppermint Porter or a Chocolate Cream Peppermint Stout. I believe I would rather go with the Stout. I am not sure how to go about this other than I would prefer to go...

Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer Pecan Pie Ale

I think I found my next brew. Thank you. Might do a pumpkin spice at the same time. Now a question. How critical are the fermenting temps? Would it be wise to have a second fridge? Even in the basement here I can pretty much maintain 67f-70f.

Autumn Seasonal Beer Sleepy Hollow Pumpkin Ale (2011)

Was thinking the same thing. Another recipe I looked at called for 60 oz of pumpkin.

    Lowering the IBU's

Ok here is more information. The OG was 1.068. I added the 1oz Brewers gold and boiled for 40 minutes. Then added 1lb DME boiled for 5 minutes. Added 1/2oz Cascade hops for 5 minutes then another 1/2 oz Cascade hops and boiled for the final 10 minutes. It is a 60 minute boil total. The Brewers...

How long do stouts take to carb?

My first beer was an Oatmeal Stout. 1 week in the Primary 2 weeks in the secondary. Used the package of priming sugar roughly 5 oz. Kept in the pantry closet for 2 weeks to the day before chilling and drinking. Produced a beautiful head and tasted very good. I still have one left and it has been...

    Lowering the IBU's

I recently brewed an Imperial Blonde Ale out of a box kit by Brewers Best. I enjoyed the flavor and everything about it. I would like to make it again but possibly cut down the extra bitter flavor. According to the paperwork tht came with the kit the IBU is 26-30. The hops that came with the kit...

    Oatmeal Stout

So my new adventure in making beer has been a sucess. I started this project March 2nd. I tasted my first one yesterday April 6th. I am very pleased after 5 weeks of anxiety and wondering how it turned out. A lot of second guessing was involved since I have brewed 2 more batches since. The...

    3rd in the books

Just finished my 3rd batch of beer today. It's an English Pale Ale. This was made from a Brewers Best box and I think it may be a good one. I have done 3 out of the box kits and next one will be from a recipe not a box. Next weekend I will be bottling my Imperial Blonde Ale. My Oatmeal Stout...
