Extremely low gravity on a BIAB wheat

Ive done one other BIAB/no extract. It came out wonderful. I also had assistance setting the grain mill (at LHBS). This time I set it myself (at home). All I can imagine is I didn't crush well enough and basically attempted to mash whole malted grains....

Extremely low gravity on a BIAB wheat

I posted this in a sticky but I'm trying to figure out what's up. Please help. I just did a BIAB wheat batch today. The OG should have been about 1.056 (high end for the style). at 69*F, I got 1.016. I used absolutely no extract of any kind and followed my brew sheet to a tee. I am wondering if...

Attention new brewers, yes your original gravity reading is wrong. Don't panic.

I just did a BIAB wheat batch today. The OG should have been about 1.056 (high end for the style). at 69*F, I got 1.016. I used absolutely no extract of any kind and followed my brew sheet to a tee. I am wondering if over...or under-crushing the grains could have led to any issues. My grain...

    ebay aquarium temp controller build

Here's mine completed. Still enough free room to install a second STC-1000 on the front and another outlet on the opposing side at the top when the time comes. It will be wall mounted between a semi-walk-in ferm chamber and a keezer, so I figured I'd save $10 on the next go around and double it...

    Motorized victoria mill question

So I'm sure this has been asked or mentioned before but I wasn't sure how to word it and didn't want to scroll through a hundred pages of search for it. Has anyone ever put a motor on a Victoria style mill? I have the mill an it does for now but sakes alive it is exhausting on a large grain...

    The beginnings of Brew McQ

Ya I wholeheartedly agree. But from what I've seen that cheap little brain is incredibly reliable so likelihood is ill use that and smile. I plan to eventually go pro (don't we all?) and honestly, if the stc holds up like some examples I've seen, it will probably be one of my first investments...

    The beginnings of Brew McQ

They really are shockingly tiny. I just got mine last Saturday....couldn't believe how small it was....

That's kind of a good point about the basket affecting a hard plumbed inlet. I may still play with it but for now I'm sticking to BiAB, so it's sort of necessary to have the basket.

    The beginnings of Brew McQ

On that recirc, if a person wanted to install a tangential inlet about 3" from the top, so it's "hard-tubed" (still removable, but more like the bottom), do you think it'd be wise? I'm looking at the exact same BC 62 qt you seem to have, and have a buddy who said he could do all of my welding (I...

    ebay aquarium temp controller build

That's only a pinch more than I paid on eBay for mine but I spent almost 2 months watching several but it now's and bid styles to find the right one (shipped from AZ, instead of china!).

    The beginnings of Brew McQ

That number was about what I expected. And all the advice makes sense. I've kind of looked at the pre-assembled set ups and like you, believe I would prefer to build it myself so that I can better troubleshoot any fallacies or general PM on it. Thank you and keep up the great work!

    ebay aquarium temp controller build

For now I just flipped the box over and cut a new hole. I am planning a walk-in ferm chamber in my basement as we speak with two zones (one for lagers, one for ales), plus a 20 cu.ft. keezer; so ill be operating a few controllers and plan to just get my hands on a larger industrial box with all...

    ebay aquarium temp controller build

I'm sure it's salvageable. The good news is its not an URGENT project as its gonna be for my fermenter for now and I am not brewing for another couple weeks at least.

    ebay aquarium temp controller build

I was really hoping you'd just lie to me and say I didn't screw it up haha On that note: thank you for the quick reply! My dad is pretty creative with the things I mess up, maybe he'll have a quick fix for it

    ebay aquarium temp controller build

Okay, so I'm in process on my build. I got the holes cut beautifully for the outlet. Then proceeded on to the hole for the temp controller. I traced it (assumed the front) and went to put it in and those orange brackets started holding me up. Now it turns out after. Tiny amount of shaving I have...

    The beginnings of Brew McQ

Looks great. Do you happen to have a parts list and rough estimate of cost purely on the electric BiAB set up? My SWMBO and I just bought a house and I get a brew room finally. I'm trying to convince her to let me go electric but she's concerned about $$$. (Understandably so.)

Yep - Another DIY STC-1000 Controller Thread...

This is probably one of the most descriptive builds I've seen. I just bought my project box last night, planning to order the controller and buy the outlet and wires this weekend. Thank you for this!

Need advice on using candy corn in a halloween beer.

I'm a candy corn lover as well, which is why that was where my mind shot to. I certainly understand the varying degrees of risk I may take by trying this, but I'm kind of a mad scientist and right now I'm out to create something new, so I'm gonna try it. I like what was said above about making...
