Any thoughts on this pH testing solution?

So I'm extra cheap and I don't have any desire or funding to get a real pH meter. My jar of test strips has proven to be nothing more than overpriced confetti. Any reason these would be more effective? http://www.amazon.com/dp/B008BMJ8M0/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20

What should I do with my old IC?

Hi all, I picked up a shiny new immersion chiller a few months back (1/2") and my old homemade one (1/4") has just been sitting around ever since. They're both 50-foot length. I can scrap it for about $25 (I think that's what I was told at the recycling center). Not really worth it to me, as I...

    Have I got a phantom CO2 leak?

It had been a productive Sunday. I bottled a batch of beer, did some late spring cleaning on my equipment, and even had time to drink a few homebrews. I had everything set to proper serving pressure on my brand-spankin-New triple regulator bank I bought from Keg Connection. I mounted the regs...

Did I corrode my Aluminum pitcher?

Gotta love brew day surprises...like finding my ball valves and other stainless bits soaking in dish soap (Ajax) that I forgot to finish cleaning out after my last brew...about ten days ago. To be safe, I set this pitcher aside until I could hear from someone who knows more about metals reacting...

    Wlp400 fast fermentation?

Hi all, So I brewed up a witbier last week using some lemongrass. Mash: 5 lb 2-row 5 lb flaked wheat I tried to mash low for a dry finish and ended up getting about ~148oF for the 60 minutes (got distracted and didnt check temp until the end of mash). I after the boil, I had an OG of about...

10g Mash Tun setup for sale

In Atlanta. Hoping to get around $80 for the thing. Been used a couple times, I built it thinking it would help my process - I just prefer my bazooka tube - feel free to make me an offer if I'm too high.

    Diacetyl from 2565?

Hi all, So I recently crafted two 5gal. batches of a blonde ale to hopefully enjoy this spring/summer. I let them both ferment around 68-70oF (ambient in a basement closet) for 4-5 weeks each and cold conditioned the first for about 3-4 more weeks. Kegged and carbed, all I can taste is butter...

    "Piggy-backing" Starters?

Sorry if there's already a thread that addresses this. I tried searching but didnt get the answer to my question. Would you think it better (for the yeast) if I were to ferment with perpetual starters rather than washing yeast from the primary cake? For instance, I have been saving te last...

    Strange New Mexican Woods

So I was stocking up on the cheap Mexican spices in the international aisle, picking up the usual oregano, cumin, etc and some hibiscus and rose petals for a "floral" IPA I'm planning - and I found myself grabbing a bunch of bags of different barks, thinking, "Hey, I'll bet I could age a...

    Blood Orange Pils - Ideas?

Planning on doing the attached recipe (5 gal) when I can find the spare time - maybe tomorrow AM before work, but we'll see. I've got 6 blood oranges I'm going to use, I just can't decide how. I've done a wit before using 6 fresh oranges where I added the zest, juice, and fruit pulp to the boil...

    High FG from the cold?

So I had a stout and a porter I parti-gyled three weeks ago and I checked gravity tonight and my stout (US-05) that started at 1.065 is about 1.030 and my porter (WLP004) which was 1.045 is about 1.020. I'm thinking it got too cold in the garage where I keep them sans insulation or temp control...

Georgia Pin lock corny plus TWO sets of disconnects.

I've got a 5 gallon pin lock corny keg in great condition that I don't necessarily need, plus two sets of disconnects (so if you have more pin locks or plan to get more, you're set). Probably worth +\- $100 all together...any takers? Sale or trade. I don't have anything particular I'm looking...

    Regulator creep...beyond frustrating. Please help?

Okay so the other day I set my reg to 8 psi an left it alone. Last night I saw it had jumped to 50! I did burst carb my kegs at 30 psi for about 48 hrs turne it down to 15 and after that it was dispensing fine, if a little foamy. I realize now that I did not bleed pressure before Hooking up...

    (Mostly) Finished Keezer Build

My dad helped me out big time putting this together, and I think we did a pretty great job considering neither of us had ever made one before. We reconditioned (painted) the freezer which was a $50 Craigslist score and built the collar in an afternoon. Did the nice dark stain and a double coat...

    Another partigyle question

I've been thinking of trying out the partigyle methodology, considering I got into home brewing as a cost effective way to drink lots of beer, and two batches in one sounds right up my alley. Ill start by saying I'm not a "math guy" and I use iphone apps like Beersmith and Sparge Pal for all my...
