    iSpindle - DIY Electronic Hydrometer

Hrm, I have not had the same experience. I didn't remove the diode or the led and didn't have any trouble using the mikmonken shield. Looking at https://github.com/universam1/iSpindel/issues/119 perhaps that's because I've always made sure the switch was off. Robert

Yup, it's less than $20 in parts if you itemize the things you end up buying multiples of. Robert

BrewPi@ESP8266, no need of RPI and Arduino.

WiFiManager acts like a captive portal. I haven't tried setting it up from a computer (only a phone), but you may need to open a browser after connecting to the brewpiless network and try browsing somewhere. That should send you too the configuration page. Otherwise try using a phone to do it...

    Tilt Bluetooth Hydrometer Detailed Review

Not exactly what you asked for, but if you use iSpindel in combination with BrewPiLess you can define fermentation profiles based upon gravity. For example: start at one temp, ramp to another when you've reached a certain gravity, do something else once it has stabilized, etc. Unfortunately as...

BrewPi@ESP8266, no need of RPI and Arduino.

Yup, I've used it before. I just wasn't sure which parameter to use for this particular issue. Is there a way to print out the current values? I didn't see anything in JsonKeys.h and there doesn't appear to be anything in the UI to do it. On ubidots, I have one device with 4 variables. The...

BrewPi@ESP8266, no need of RPI and Arduino.

I'm finishing up my first fermentation with brewpiless. It did an excellent job maintaining temps and ramping temps up when needed. Beer temp tracked the set point far better than any controller that I've used previously. However when it comes to cold crashing it seems like it's being quite...

    iSpindle - DIY Electronic Hydrometer

Back when I was using the BeerBug it was common to see a similar bump near the beginning of fermentation. The torpedo weight the BeerBug used had a flat bottom, so the theory at the time as that as the beer was reaching high krausen CO2/proteins/yeast would get trapped underneath the torpedo...

BrewPi@ESP8266, no need of RPI and Arduino.

I suspect it's related to electrical interference of some sort. I had it happen to mine a couple times when I was wiring it up with the case open and I was moving the LCD and wires around. Now that it's closed it up, it has been stable for several weeks. The same thing used to happen to my 3D...

I believe this is what you're looking for: https://github.com/universam1/iSpindel/blob/master/pics/BB/9.jpg I'm still waiting on parts to build mine, so at the moment that picture is the only tip I have to offer. Robert

Any way to get rid of (popcorn taste) diacetyl?

I've experienced it with sour beers that have been gravity stable and force carbonated, so I don't think a new food supply is really essential. I'd guess that a dried out airlock or sloppy racking between fermenters could introduce enough oxygen to cause it while still in the fermenter, but I'm...

Any way to get rid of (popcorn taste) diacetyl?

I've experienced this before in sours beers that I've produced and it's actually a flavor that I personally detect fairly frequently in commercially produced sours. For a long time I thought it was diacetyl, but my experience with diacetyl during off flavor tasting was quite different. I had...

Examining possible solutions to issue of sulfur smell from Perlick 650ss faucets

I stumbled on this thread by accident, but I too have been having this problem. The first beer I put through a new 650ss faucet was a lager so initially I just blamed it on the beer :) Thanks for all the research you've done. Five Star's Liquid Line Cleaner is NaOH based, though it contains...

    Speidel Braumeister (brewmaster)

I don't want to side track the thread too much, but let me explain my reasoning. What you're saying is in general true and especially true of a traditional mash, but not so true when talking about the Braumeister. By the time you get to sparging you've already been recirculating your wort...

    Speidel Braumeister (brewmaster)

What are you using to calculate your efficiency? If it's BeerSmith and you're looking at Brewhouse Efficiency, then there's your problem. You want to look at the mash efficiency number. As for stirring, I personally don't see a whole lot of difference in efficiency unless I've really packed...

BeerBug Review - Early build impressions

Sounds like the BrewBit (http://www.brewbit.com) also there's a thread on it here: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f163/new-temperature-controller-brewbit-417306/ I actually have both the BeerBug and the BrewBit and I'm tinkering with a way to get both of them to play nice together so that...

Beersmoith: hot or cold preboil wort (in relationship to volume)?

I think this might have been a recent change because I'm pretty sure I too recall the pre-boil volume not accounting for expansion, though now it does seem to (though not really, more on that later). I did a little tinkering to try and figure things out and sadly it may have raised more...
