Hops haven't surfaced yet this year

That's a bummer. I was afraid that was going to be me after this never ending winter. I was going to mulch all my hops that were in the ground, but got lazy last fall and didn't do it. I seriously thought I was going to have to start from scratch this year, but my now second year centennials and...

Free BeerSmith 2 mobile for Android

I don't think it syncs equipment profiles, but there is an easy work around. If you sync one of your recipes from the cloud that uses a specific profile you can then choose to save it to your profile on the mobile platform.

Hops haven't surfaced yet this year

I'm quite surprised that nothing has come up from last year's planting. I'm in northern Wisconsin and even with 70 days of subzero temps and 2 feet of snow on the ground up until a month ago, my centennials I planted last year have all popped up.

    Nikobrew hop rhizomes

I bought centennial rhizomes last year very late in the season (late May/early June) since Nikobrew was having a blowout on them (ended up being $1/rhizome). I wasn't expecting much out of them since I am guessing they had been sitting in a fridge for quite at least 2 months. I did notice that...

    Bottle Shop in Boise, ID?

I'm in Eastern Oregon for the holidays and we are headed to Boise for some shopping today. Anyone have any good recommendations for a bottle shop or two to hit up?

I am new to home brewing

I had the same question awhile back. I'm in the same situation as you. I'm up in the Frederic area. I think New Richmond might have one. That would be the closest. Otherwise I know Stillwater, MN has one and Eau Claire too. I just can't bring myself to make the drive.

I guess I shouldn't have fallen asleep around here. Oh well.

    Paying for homebrew at event

In the end a simple email or phone call to the Department of Revenue asking the question might get the OP the answers he desires. Although not exactly the same situation, a group I am involved with is planning a brewfest (breweries and homebrew comp) in NW Wisconsin where all the proceeds will...

Anyone Here Ever Organize a Beer Festival?

Thanks for the input Phunhog. These are exactly the sort of little things that are good to know. I wouldn't imagine we will have too much of an issue with our municipality, but these are all things to consider. FYI - Phunhog this post just goes to show how small the world is sometimes. I...

Anyone Here Ever Organize a Beer Festival?

Thanks for info Yoop! Definitely worth an e-mail to them to maybe get some insight. I wanted to go to both BigTap (this weekend) and The Great Northern Beer Festival but just not in the cards this year. There are a lot of festivals all around us, but the closest is 50 miles away with most...

Anyone Here Ever Organize a Beer Festival?

Let me start with a little background here. Earlier this year I became a member on the board of directors for a local non-profit that is perpetually underfunded (i.e. - broke!). I joined the board hoping I could help an organization that is doing great things for our community and give back...

Chop & Brew: Belgian Dark Strong Ales

Awesome job on this episode Chip. I watched it at lunch today. Chop & Brew is filling the void for me now that Brewing TV is no longer Brewing TV. There was just something about this episode and the Boat Bitter episode that just felt right. Maybe it was having Dawson along for the ride, or...

When do you havest in illinois

I'm in NW Wisconsin and harvested my Cascades late last week. I am guessing you should be close to ready if you are in Illinois. There are lots of ways to know they are ready. There is the: 1. Squeeze Test - squeeze the cones and they should feel papery. Also you may hear some crunching...

    Great Lakes Hops crowns?

The prices they have listed are for either their crowns or actively growing field grade plants.....depending on what time of year you order from them.
