Thanks for doing the experiment already. I picked up one container f this stuff from TJ's yesterday to add to my imperial stout.
I thought about adding two containers, but decided that one in a 5 gallon batch would be the proper concentrations and your experiences seem to back that up...
Agreed, more details are needed......but what I would suggest you not do is panic and do something drastic. I've had the same problem before when I let a starter of yeast sit for too long. it went dormant and it took almost 4 days for activity to pop up, and in the meantime I freaked out and...
damn, that is a funky looking recipe. Almost everything that you can use is used, and it looks like it would probably taste like a great hoppy IPA. Looks good in the glass too!
Id say to just get a new auto-siphon. I've had to replace mine when I started getting infected yeast washing and took a good hard look at all the cracks in my auto and just decided that it Wasn't worth it. I still use the thing for moving secondary into my kegs (after its siphoned out a whole...
Stone Ruination is a beer I have never loved. Too bitter and undrinkable (its an imperial ipa, but yea, I guess it still counts). I also was not a fan of nb ranger, but did not hate it like I hate Ruination.
I guess that i haven't had an annoying response yet, tho i think the closest that I got came from my family......but that is to be expected. When you tell your mom that your making gallons of beer at home, well, the conversation will usually flow into the territory of "your an alcoholic!"...
Update: Everything has been dryed and set up, and so far it looks like Ill have no issues. The wire I picked up was way too long, but that can be fixed later if/when I build a 2ed stick.
In the tests things worked out fine, the outlet didnt trip, and no issues occured besides the water...
Pretty much the idea. Id prefer to do this properly the first time and doubt that Ill find what I need being given away for free somewhere. My boils tend to be very long as well, so Id prefer to not have my wires burning up from running too much current through emmn.
Just pick this up when I...
120V, any length will do, tho a preferred length of about 25ish feet.
Hell, anyone telling me the type of wire that they used would help a lot.
sooooo, basically this thing?

anyone got a better option?
I have almost all the parts I need to build it, but I just realized that the cord I was saving is probably not up to the task. It was used on a 1000w steam cleaner, so I figure that I need something stronger.
does anyone have a link to something I could use? amazon would be preferred...
I've used a bucket heater that I've used for my brews for a while (low powered, but gets the job done with my stovetop), but I think that I've decided to pick up a 2ed brewing element to shorten my boil times
I decided on this...
that's assuming that I leave the bottles for a good deal of time for all the steam to lift out.
If I give it a blast from the bottom out steam stays their for a good amount of time, and as I push beer into the bottles it pushes more steam out of the bottles, keeping air out of the stuff.
I was filling some bottles from my kegs, and before I did so I blasted each bottle with steam to help sanatize them (hand steam cleaner). As I was filling them up I noticed how the steam was moving out of the bottles as I filled them and I thought, would steam move oxygen out of bottles?
It...
I cast my vote for brewing better beer and yeast. both of those books are great resources and really did make an impact on my brewing process.
Id also recommend looking up "brewing" into any nearby science/collage library. youd be surprised what comes up. At FSU we had a surprising amount of...
