Anheuser-Busch InBev Acquires Northern Brewer & Midwest Supplies

Even if the have the buying power to purchase things cheaper, that savings will be passed on to their shareholders in the form of a higher margin. I don't see them dropping prices for homebrewers.

Anheuser-Busch InBev Acquires Northern Brewer & Midwest Supplies

This is so disturbing. I will certainly never purchase another product from Midwest or NB. The thing that gets me is that AB had a MASSIVE role in how terrible beer got in this country, and has tried really hard to keep it that way. They've been selling and marketing a **** product for...

Partially carbonated beer coming out of my primary

I just had this while racking a Belgian Quad from the secondary to the keg. I've been brewing for a good while now, and have never had the beer I pulled for my hydrometer have two inches of foam on it! I've seen some mystery carbonation before, but never like this. Guess it's going to take a...

    DIY Stir Plate Build

I finally broke down and bought a stirplate last night. NB had 20% off any purchase, so I scooped up the maelstrom/oxygen wand/2000ml kit for $40 off. I wanted another 2000ml, and to upgrade to the Oxygen wand anyway, so it was a decent deal. Still, it pained me to do it. I've built three...

    Real Wort Starters Overview

Interesting idea! My system isn't terribly efficient, so this might really be a useful way to recapture some of those losses!

I'm curious if anyone has tried adding a basic fly-sparge to the end of their mash? I have the 5g gas version, so I don't have to worry about keeping the coil submerged. As long as the BK isn't so shallow as to present real scorching threat, I think this might work. I've been thinking...

Benefits and Disadvantages of Single Vessel Brewing Systems

I have a breweasy - the results are very good in many ways. After a dozen brews on it, I'm very happy with it, despite less than stellar first impressions. Efficiency is a bit low, but not terrible - there are tweaks that improve it. If you're looking at one of these systems though, I'd warn...

    Blichmann BrewEasy

Cool - I think I'm going to give this a shot on my next brew-day. I've also been kicking around the idea of using 1G less during the Mash, and at the end pumping 1G of fresh water at fly sparge temps from another vessel to try to increase my efficiency. Who knows, maybe it'll buy a few extra...

    Blichmann BrewEasy

Sounds like a good idea - are you doing this on a BrewEasy? Certainly seems doable if starting with a dry tun. I've never considered it. I'd have a slight issue with the tun->kettle drain since everything but that uses quick disconnects, but could always work around that. Food for thought -...

    Blichmann BrewEasy

There are a few things, though this one was almost certainly caused by too fine a crush coupled with the discovery that I didn't have the bag of rice hulls that I thought I had ;) Another way this can be achieved is to dough-in with the pump running. Stirring the mash too hard and forcing a...

Today I learned that the only thing that sucks worse than a stuck sparge is a stuck recirculating mash....carry on. Actually - EDIT: My mash had a bit of foam on top, kinda looked like a beautiful beer. This MIGHT be a good indicator that there are flow issues- Now, carry on.

    Reviews on Millar's Barley Mill?

Here are a few pics of my mill & base. This was the first time I'd ever used a jig saw and my cuts left a bit to be desired. Hence the masking tape. I also thought the piece of wood I had, which was a decorative cabinet panel was real wood, not laminated MDF. That made it a bit more unruly...

    Reviews on Millar's Barley Mill?

This is very satisfying to hear being a current owner of the B2. Mine too is in great shape and crushing beautifully. I did have an issue with losing my original gap setting, but I dug out the alan wrench and re-set it and it's been great ever since (once their customer support reminded me...
