Surprising Result! Metheglin turned out tasting exactly like cinnamon rolls! Recipe!

Often. Plus it's easy to do in one gallon batches. There is no downside and it's hard to oxidize mead due to the low pH. Especially early on. I'd do it for the first week at least. Keeps the pH from getting tooo low and the co2 from stressing the yeast. I say do it as long as you can still...

Surprising Result! Metheglin turned out tasting exactly like cinnamon rolls! Recipe!

I started it mid May 2015. It was my first real experiment with degassing (at least daily) and SNA. The mead was at 0.995 at about 3 weeks and totally clear by 4 which was faster than I'd ever seen. It is definately a cinnamon bomb and I'd probably half the cinnamon if i did it again. No off...

Surprising Result! Metheglin turned out tasting exactly like cinnamon rolls! Recipe!

I bottled some metheglin tonight and was surprised that it smelled and tasted exactly like cinnamon rolls! I was attempting to formulate a recipe for "Chai Spice Metheglin", but now I am definitely calling it "Cinnamon Roll Metheglin". 3 lbs orange blossom honey Lavin 71B-1122 5g in 6.25g...

Haze after adding spices to secondary?

That was my thought too. There was a "fluffy" something on the cinnamon. I've added cinnamon to primary before and not had a problem. I think, ultimately, I'll have to clarify after back sweetening.

Haze after adding spices to secondary?

I had the following mead one gallon batch started (no heat method): 3lbs Orange Blossom Honey nutrient/energizer stepped additions Lavin 71B-1122 dry packet (rehydrated with goFerm) Starting gravity 1.019 3 weeks in totally clear and a gravity of 0.995 2 weeks later racked onto the...

GoFerm Technical Question for 1 gallon batch

I suppose my primary worry is that I am putting in way too much GoFerm into my one gallon (6.25g per 5g yeast vs. what would be 2.5g for 2g yeast). For the batches I did with 6.25 grams I left out one of my 1 gram addition of Fermaid/DAP. In the future I think I'm going to add the whole...

    Salvage Job - With Pics!

I have been thinking I need to do more fruit in the future. I have been doing one gallon batches (I have larger carboys, but I just am in an "experimental" phase), so 4 lbs of fruit takes up quite a bit of space in them. The blueberry came out a little when I added the honey to sweeten. Didn't...

    Salvage Job - With Pics!

I made two one-gallon batches of hydromel. One blackberry, one blueberry. Safale US-05. They fermented to completion and I primed them to carbonate. ABV about 7% in both. I let them sit for about a month in capped 187mL Champagne splits. They have been met with fairly poor or "meh" reviews by...

First mead was awful... then delicious

Maybe change yeast to Lavin 71B-1188 or D47. Staggered nutrient additions (did original recipe have nutrient? ). Degass often in the beginning. GoFerm rehydration nutrient.

GoFerm Technical Question for 1 gallon batch

This is confusing to me for some reason. I'll lay out my thinking and please let me know if/where I'm going wrong. 5g packet of yeast X 1.25=6.25g GoFerm then dissolve in 20X the weight of the GoFerm in water. per: http://www.scottlab.com/product-102.aspx That would that make 20X6.25 =...

GoFerm Technical Question for 1 gallon batch

The general recommendation is 1-2g/gallon yeast. Should I split my 5g packet with less GoFerm, or keep doing what I have been doing? None of the batches I've tried it with are done yet, so that's the tricky part.

GoFerm Technical Question for 1 gallon batch

This afternoon I started the following one gallon batch of orange blossom mead (which I may later add raspberries and/or oak): 3 lbs Orange Blossom Honey Walmart "Spring" water Dry Lavin 71B-1122 5g packet GoFerm Nutrient 6.25g SNA: (1/4 tsp DAP/Urea + 1/4 Tsp Fermaid K)...

Blackberry hydromel in 187ml bottles -pic

I think they are called champagne "splits". I got them at my local homebrew shop. They also have them at midwest supplies i believe. They can be capped or corked. They are 1/4th a standard 750ml wine bottle.
