That cap should have small holes on the very top, it's so gas comes out but bigger things don't fall in. Does yours has some? If not I would take a safety pin and make a half dozen holes.

It's not so much about putting in added water. Boil off rate is not a fixed value. It has to do with MANY variables: pot hight and width, actual power of your burner, humidity, temp, axial positioning of the moon.... A lot of stuff.
It's as easy as when you're done and you're off by whatever...
Good idea. I'll give that a try with my compressor and see. If it does work I'll open it up. But I'll also take a wire brush and try to clean it better

Kindof, it was moved out of a fridge but not recently. Even after I opened the lid for those pictures and few minutes later it was bubbling like every 5-10 mins or so.
