    hops and mead

I told my self not to bottle earlier than 5 months for the 5 gallon batch. So, mine is still aging, as I want the hops to mellow out a bit. It has almost been 4 months, but it cleared and was finished within 3 weeks. But I am new to mead so the clarity might not be enough for some people.

    Is in valve connected properly?

I have the correct tubes for the in and out. Also, that is a great tip about the notches, I looked and see the difference in the valves. Thanks you for pointing it out, and to think I was going to paint the the valve.

    Is in valve connected properly?

Problem solved, the valves apparently were on the wrong side. But they appeared to be the same size. So, I tried the picnic tap on both sides and it worked, while the CO2 line only fitted on one. Changed valves to the correct sides and it worked. Thanks for the quick reply! Kegged beer next...

    Is in valve connected properly?

Ok so this is the first time kegging and I am paranoid about everything. I do not hearing any hissing, but it looks like the valve is not on correctly. is this connected properly? I don't think the lock should look like the ball bearings are exposed? Shouldn't the outer plastic sleeve cover the...

Making Traditional rice Wine. Cheap, Fun, and Different

I agree with don't worry about the ABV. Someone said in a couple of pages prior that he had access to a lab and would do it when he had time. So, for now I hand it out calling it rice milk. It way to funny to watch friends pour a full glass. I end up telling them that you poured it, so put your...

    hops and mead

I was thinking I was crazy at the 1/2#. But I remembered something about the way people originally hopped IPAs. Something about coming over on a boat and how flavor lasts for months and then it fades in flavor. I planned on at least 5 months, I figured the flavor would change dramatically...

    hops and mead

I am waiting on a batch that I started a month ago, but probably won't touch it for four more months. I did change the recipe some, cause I really wanted a higher ABV and was afraid to boil the honey that long. I used 12# of honey and Nottingham yeast as I didn't have any bread yeast and the...

Making Traditional rice Wine. Cheap, Fun, and Different

Results with pitching yeast when the rice was to hot to hold. Today is day 21. Made with thai jasmine rice 1:1 ratio, soaked one for a hour the other not soaked. It appears that no black mold grew on either batch. FYI started a batch a week later on 3/9 and top layer has slight start of black...

Best programs to make or places to order custom labels

You can also try beerlabelizer.com. It is limited to the designs that you can use. You will have to pay $5 to get the rest. It's not the kind of program that you can get creative with, but I made some awesome labels for my new nephew this year. They turned out to be a hit. You can print labels...

    Hopped mead!

Ok so yes 1/2lb, but here is the story behind the madness. I was looking at an old cookbook that was handed down. There was a recipe in the book and I was going to follow it. The recipe called for half pound of hops and 2 quarts of honey. It was a shame to only add 2 quarts, when my wife likes...

    Hopped mead!

It seems that I should read up on making mead before I jumped into this. Well I didn't and now have the impatience of a guy with no beer in the pipeline. I went against the recipe and decided to go and do something stupid. I went on my own. Here is what I did. 12 lbs honey as 2 qts ended at...

Can i add honey to my mead?

Thanks for the link to read! This all started when I hinted the word honey with the word wine, and then my wife started to listen to me. Maybe it is how I should start all of my conversations with her. But I will be honest that I am a lazy reader, I just get bored. I tend to learn more by being...

Can i add honey to my mead?

Thanks, I wanted to make sure there wasn't some "special" way to add it. It is in a bucket, and did it smell awesome! I really need to learn more about this mead stuff.

Can i add honey to my mead?

This is my first attempt. I made a hopped mead that was a old recipe. I used 6lbs of honey to 5 gallons of water. I got a 1.036 OG and want a higher ABV on this. I have read about adding honey after the batch was done. So since it finished about 2 hours ago is there a way to add more honey? I...
