    060 Hefeweizen. Dilute?

I would dilute now. A strong hefeweisen is really no fun. Great job with the efficiency by the way. The grain in Hefe have a tendency to get sticky and not drain so well.

    carapils VS flaked barley

I am half way through a hefeweisen with about 5% flaked barley. The first bottles had a wonderful fluffy head, but the results appear diminished as the beer ages.

For the Louisville and Southern Indiana Brewers

Wine and Beer Makers supply is an EXCELLENT place to go. They are well stocked with stuff and know how. The older woman who owns the place knows everything there is to know and is hoot to talk to. I have seen her gracefully guide novice customers to better less expensive solutions many...

For the Louisville and Southern Indiana Brewers

Wine and Weer Makers Supply on Westport Road is an EXCELLENT place to go. They are around the corner from the Kroger at Westport and Hurstborne. They are well stocked with what ever you are looking for, be that stuff, ingredients or know how. The older woman who owns the place knows...

    Partial Grain quantities

Something to think about...with a 5 gallon pot 3 gallon all grain batches are possible. A simple way to get started is boil in a bag (BIAB). No mash tun required. Your stove top can probably do the boil, so no propane burner system required. Cut a 5 gallon recipe in half for a 2.5 gallon...

    Cooler Mash Tun Sizes

For a 2.5 gallon batch you will need 5-6 lbs of grain. For starting out plan on 1.5 quarts of mash water per pound of grain, resulting in say 9 quarts of water, or 2.25 gallons. The grain adds some additional volume which is less than 2 quarts additional when fully wetted. So total mash volume...

Help Tweak this Amber Ale Recipe

This one just came into its prime, after three weeks fermenting and four weeks in the bottle. Learning from the results, I will tweak the next brew of this. Please give me your suggestions... I am especially interest in adjunct grain suggestions, hops suggestions, and suggestions to eliminate...

Been a month and still activity

As for the bubbles in the OP it seems likely that something is still fermenting. A finished beer might give off some CO2 if the temperature is increased, but would stop when the temperature stabilized or decreased. I have no experience with S-04 but from what I read it does get through the...

    3 weeks in secondary

Probably ready to bottle. Take a hygrometer gravity reading and a taste. Keep in mind it will continue to mature in the bottle, but should taste decent if it is finished.

    Learning to value my LHBS

I visited the LHBS in the next town today, thinking I would try them out for comparison. What a contrast! At my LHBS I am asked to buy only exactly what I need for the grain bill and the grain is crushed uniformly to my specifications. At the store I visited today I was asked to purchase...

Cut back on Beer because the belly is too big?

This has been a very interesting thread. I was wondering how people balanced consumption of good home brew with overall health. I can see that others have the same concerns I have. My consumption rate has been going up since I started brewing my own. They are so delicious. I find myself...

    TXBeekeeper turning mead maker

Tx, I am sure there are great mead recipes out there. I will follow along as you go. Generally the mead I have tried tastes like, well , honey. I encourage mead making, but for myself with so much honey in my diet from other sources, mead just hasn't captured my attention. Too much of a good...

    TXBeekeeper turning mead maker

I too am a beekeeper. No real interest in mead, as I have yet to taste one I liked. I do use honey to condition the bottles with good results so far.
