Woke up this morning to find that the 2000ml starter that I began yesterday evening had bubbled over and created a bit of a sticky mess. This is the first time that I have made a 2000ml starter (I normally make a 1000ml starter) and the first time that my starter has bubbled out beneath the aluminum cap. Should I have any concerns? I normally go 24-36 hours on the stirplate. Should I shorten the stirplate time and fridge the starter given all of the activity? Thanks, Montanaandy

I usually use an airlock for my starters, but I know it's pretty common to not.

I've had an occasional blowout from my starters and I have always just pitched as is. IMO, there is enough co2 coming out to prevent anything coming in. If you wanted to clean up the outside with some star san just to be sure...it wouldn't hurt you any.

And I'm sure that if someone disagrees with me, they'll post.
