RO Unit Question

I'm looking at two reverse osmosis units for around $65. It would be filtering water that has already gone through a salt-based softener.

They are both four stages. The last stage can either be carbon or deionization. I'd use it mostly for brewing, but maybe also for drinking water. Seems like carbon is recomended for drinking water, and DI is recomended for aquarium water. Does it make a difference for brewing?

There's a site called Pure Water Club (a Google search brings it up). They seem to be about RO for aquariums. They just hook to your sink and it sits on your countertop, no storage tank. Figure I can run the line into a carboy and let it go a few hours. It's $60, but figure add a few bucks for shipping.

Deionized sounds better than carbon filtered.

Deionized is for making ultra pure water used in reef tanks and is complete overkill for drinking and brewing.

The RO unit will reduce TDS readings by 95-98% which is more than adequate.

Makes sense. Thanks! I think I'll go with carbon instead of DI so if I also use it for drinking water than it will at least taste better.

Put some tape on the hose going into the carboy. Made that mistake last night.
