Fermenter for a mead I just start has a tiny hole near the air lock seal. Sense CO2 is heavier than O2 anyway, shouldn't I be able to leave it as is? Really don't have the money for a new fermenter this week and all my others are full.

Should be fine. One of my fermenters has never sealed completely (no airlock activity at all), but has always made good booze. If there is a visible opening on top, you might consider putting a piece of foil over it to make sure no dust falls in.
