I am brewing some beer for a wedding in October and have been working on pilot batches already to get the beer recipes locked down early. The theme of the brews that are going to be made are a west coast vs east coast. Since the bride is from the west coast and the groom is from the east.

The west coast ale is already figured out. Went with an amber ale using NW hops. However, I am having a hard time figuring out a good east coast type beer to make that is not a lager.

Any suggestions?

Couple of questions first...

Are you looking at an extract brew or all-grain?

Are you looking at using American hops or not?

Ales are a good choice for an East Coast beer...perhaps a less hoppy ale like a Brown Ale...since it's in the fall timeframe.

If the style is not too important (only light, quaffable beers for example), how about and east coast oyster stout. I haven't brewed one yet buy it is on my radar.

Either extract or all-grain is fine. I can do either. Would like to use north American hops if possible but I know a lot of east coast ales use English hops. So I am open to either.

Thanks for the suggestions thus far!

This would be very similar to Sam Adam's Boston Ale...not the lager although the taste is going to be somewhat similar - this will be a little bit maltier than the lager.
