I started dry hopping in muslin bags to avoid later syphoning trouble, only I worry if the hops are being wasted.

Please see attached photo. This is 1.5 oz after 5 days.

Is this a good amount of dissolving, or is a good amount of this hop goodness wasted?

Its probably not ideal... try a 5 gallon paint strainer bag. I use them all the time when I'm dry hopping in a carboy or keg. I tie a piece of un-scented floss around the knotted bag and secure it to the carboy bung or keg post.

I agree it looks like it was a little tight. I use a gallon paint strainer bag with 1 maybe 2 ounce of hop pellets. The hops will not dissolve. They swell when they absorb wort. You want a much liquid circulation as you can get.
