Hello all,

I am looking for hints and tips on building my own partial mash IPA recipe. I am looking for help on ratios between the grains and malt extract for a 5 gallon batch. For doing a partial mash brew are there any ratios between how much of the extract to use verses the five gallons and steeping grains?

There is no rule, but more grain is better. I would start by figuring out how much grain you can handle for a partial mash. From that amount add enough malt extract to meet your OG and you have your ratio. If you are using any unmalted adjuncts like flaked grains make sure you have enough base malt for starch conversion.

Good advice, thank you.

So I'm not exactly a pro at this by any means. Is there a chart or explanation on how to figure out my OG based on my grain bill?
