I finalized my recipe for the inaugural run of my Timwater IPA (have a good friend and IPA drinking buddy who is named Tim, from Tumwater.) Going for all "traditional" Yakima Valley hops, as opposed to my usual Amarillo loaded stuff. Here's the recipe:

Batch Size: 5.25g
Est OG: 1.059
Est FG: 1.008
IBU: 60
Boil: 60 minutes
Mash: 148 for 60 minutes

10 lbs Pale Malt (2 Row) US (2.0 SRM)
8.0 oz Wheat, Flaked (1.6 SRM)
4.0 oz Caramel/Crystal Malt - 60L (60.0 SRM)
4.0 oz Victory Malt (25.0 SRM)
8.0 oz Corn Sugar (Dextrose)
0.75 oz Centennial [10.00 %] - Boil 60.0 min
1.25 oz Centennial [10.00 %] - Boil 10.0 min
3.00 oz Mt. Hood [6.00 %] - Boil 2.0 min
3.00 oz Willamette [5.50 %] - Boil 2.0 min
2.00 oz Cascade [5.50 %] - Boil 2.0 min
1.00 oz Cascade [5.50 %] - Steep/Whirlpool
1.00 oz Willamette [5.50 %] - Steep/Whirlpool
1.0 pkg California Ale (White Labs #WLP001)
2.00 oz Willamette [5.50 %] - Dry Hop 5.0 Days
1.00 oz Cascade [5.50 %] - Dry Hop 5.0 Days
1.00 oz Mt. Hood [6.00 %] - Dry Hop 5.0 Days

Mash at 148 (or however you like for your IPA's) for 60 minutes.

I brewed this for the first time on my birthday last Thursday, and went with a BIAB brew day. Hit my volumes reasonably well, though a touch short on the amount into the fermenter, so my OG was high at 1.064. Using my FTSS on my Chronical for temp control, have it set at 69 degrees, and will likely let it ramp up to 72 (if the weather permits......this one's in the garage, and it's been in the mid/high 60's this week.)

Dumped true for the first time on this batch today, and got the following 2qts of sludge!!!

My hydrometer sample is still de-gassing a bit, but looking like it's right about at finished with 1.009. Will probably start dry hopping tomorrow. Smells wonderful, really looking forward to this one (though already sad about the additional 2qts that I'll probably lose from the dry hops!) :(

I'll add more details on this one once I get it in the keg and glass. If you decide to brew it up, let me know how it goes, and how you like it!

Looks good. I usually try to compensate for the loss when I'm making a beer with that amount of hops by making a larger batch of beer. However, I often forget. Case in point, I have an IPA that I'll be kegging this weekend....I'll be lucky to get 4 gallons in the keg. Sucks, but it's still "Oh so worth it".
