I was wondering if a turkey fryer burner has enough BTUs to do a ten gallon batch. First I'm not sure how many BTUs a turkey fryer has and second I don't know how many BTUs are needed to efficiently do a ten gallon batch.

I have 2 different burners, both of them I bought used off Craigslist so I don't really know anything about their specs, however I think both were pretty much designed to be used for turkey fryers, and both have plenty of uuummmphhhhh to boil a 10 gallon batch. Sure, it can take about 45 minutes to get to a boil, but when it gets there it's strong. If you start heating the first runnings while sparging then it doesn't take as long.

I just made a 7.5 gallon on a 55,000 BTU today. It took 20 minutes to go from 160 to boiling. 10 gallons should be easy for most.

Remember, those fryers are designed to get oil to 350.
