I washed some yeast from a brew back on 12/31/12, and have it stored in my fridge this whole time, is it still good? It's english ale yeast and I'm going to make a starter...thanks!

Well, I just made a starter from yeast that went in storage on 12/4/12 and it took right off. I also bet you'll be fine.

That's a 1.5 l starter in a gallon jug.

If you have a decent amount (say, 6-7 ounces) of rinsed ale yeast from 6 months ago stored at fridge temps under sanitized water, you ought to be able to go straight to a normal-size starter.

Ok thanks, i'm brewing friday night, so I won't have time to step it up. I'll just buy some more yeast.
