I know with the Tilt Hydrometers, you can simply use an extra phone/tablet/laptop to sit by the Hydrometers at all times and have it record data. I have been doing some research into the Raspberry Pi solution, and it intrigues me. My question is, is the below overkill? Are there cheaper and more practical Raspberry Pi solutions?

Bumpity bump bump

I bought the rasperberry pi zero w kit below to use with my Tilt which was a little less than half the cost of the one you are considering. I had to download a free program to reformat the sd card that came with the kit as the 16gb card was only fornatted for 2 gb and that wasn't enough space to hold the Tiltpi image. I also had to download a free program to write the Tiltpi image to the sd card. I only used the hdmi cable once, during setup, but I had to have it.

The zero w worked great for about 2 months then the wifi stopped connecting to my home network and I had to plug in an external usb wifi antenna I owned to get it going again. That was probably an isolated problem as the amazon reviews for the kit are pretty good overall.
