Question on absorbtion in beersmith

So, I made a Cal Common this weekend, and ended up short on volume, and I started thinking... and looking at the recipe....My mash was 6G and there were 2 sparges of 9.5 G (total) that gives me a total of 15.5 G water used..... the boil volume was supposed to be 12.5 G is it logical that 19 LBs of grain would only absorb 3 G water? Im pretty sure it absorbed more. I also checked and the ratio is set at 1.25Q - 1LB grain..... but thats not an absorption factor...
