Has anybody come up with a good way of doing this? I looked into it a while ago when I built my electric HLT but the consensus was grains in contact with a heating element was bad. I am now considering installing it to the lid of my Igloo cooler straight down spaced so that it is near the bottom of the cooler to keep it submerged in 3 gallons or more of water. I figure I can use it only to bring up the temp of the strike water with more accuracy and ease and then return the lid to the HLT while mashing since temp control after adding grains has not typically been a problem for me. Since I havent seen it built on the forum I figure either I've missed the posts or theres some reason why it isnt a good idea. Any input?
